Laser Liposuction at re*be®

These photographs demonstrate the improvement in a patient who is about Dr. Kolegraff's age. She has some visceral fat which is inside the belly and cannot be treated with laser liposuction. The treated areas were the flanks, back, upper and lower stomach. This was done in two sessions with a small amount of touch up on the abdomen done when the flanks and back were done later. It is not a good idea do develop deep muscular definition in one area when the rest of the body does not match. Some soft muscular definition was achieved leaving the skin still smooth and feminine looking on the lateral abdomen. There is still 'hangover' present but some of this is bruising and swelling following the procedure less than a week out. Further improvement will likely occur still in this area over the next several months. The small access holes are visible here but we position the lower ones so some of them can be hidden under the underwear. There is real improvement in this patient and although she will continue to improve for the next 1-3 months the results are visible in the before and after photographs. It is not hard to believe that her husband was happy too with her change in behavior as well as her appearance.

These photographs demonstrate the improvement in muscular definition for a female patient's abdomen that is possible with laser liposuction. The asymmetric bulges and the shadows they cause have been addressed with the lower tummy liposuction. The shadows present before the procedure detract from the appearance however after laser liposuction the shadows that remain seem to enhance the muscular definition. Men and women are not the same in this regard. Men can have deep tight muscular lines called tendinous inscriptions. Women on the other hand look more feminine with smooth curves and we try to duplicate this with liposuction when possible. Female professional body builders are an exception to this guideline and can look quite nice when there is a matching muscular definition everywhere. It is not a good idea do develop deep muscular definition in one area when the rest of the body does not match. Notice the amount of lower tummy 'hangover' before the procedure and then 5 weeks afterwards. There is still some 'hangover' present but it is now easy to tuck under the upper edge of the underwear. Further improvement will likely occur still in this area over the next several months. The small access holes are visible here but we position them so some of them can be hidden under the underwear. Additional improvement could be done with laser liposuction for the love handle area as this will enhance more of the 'girl' curves and add definition to the back.

This is a photograph of one of the patients from Dr. Jeffrey Klein's Liposuction 101 course one day after laser assisted liposuction under tumescent local anesthesia. Dr. Klein is a very well-known dermatologist in San Juan Capistrano, California and among his many accolades, is known as the founder of tumescent anesthesia for liposuction. Dr. Kolegraff attended this training course in California as part of his preparation to be able to offer laser liposuction at re*be.

This procedure was done in the office at re*be of Okoboji on a younger patient in our practice. The photos taken before the procedure demonstrate the real advantage of laser liposuction for this difficult area. Even with aggressive diet and exercise the imbalance in this otherwise shapely figure will have a tendency to persist. The blue oval shapes block identifying marks on the front of this patient. These first two photos were taken only 4 days apart. Over time additional improvement could be expected as the swelling goes down. There is really very little bruising which is not always possible. The amount of pain after the procedure laser liposuction is different for everyone. So far most patients are able to return to work after a weekend off. The small access holes are hard to see as we position them so some of them can be hidden under the underwear. The front upper and lower stomach areas are both smooth and proportional. Additional improvement could be done with laser liposuction but her the change in her front will be small compared to the flank results shown in these photographs. With a larger bulge the use of the laser to assist liposuction appears to cause shrinkage of the skin over the fat that was removed. For many of our patients the skin shrinkage is enough and surgical removal of loose skin is not often necessary after laser liposuction. It was easy to see the flanks size match had improved and the 'girl' curves returning. There are about 6 weeks between the photographs of the back. It is important to leave enough fat under the skin to make sure it stays smooth. Everyone wants to be thinner but leaving a small amount of fat under the skin leaves it smoother and softer. Men can have a little more aggressive liposuction increasing the muscle definition however leaving the skin without any fat underneath it is not a good look. Laser liposuction can be done when you are tan. Many of our other laser procedures it is better to wait until the tanning months have passed.

Many people believe this is to the collagen remodeling that occurs after use of the laser to heat up the fat.
