Avelar lift at re*be®
Credit for the Avelar procedure belongs to Dr. Juarez M. Avelar, a Plastic Surgeon from Brazil.
Dr. Avelar developed a more delicate procedure for doing abdominal surgery in the 1990s allowing it to be done under local anesthesia frequently as an outpatient. Physicians who perform Avelar surgical procedures may do the operation at the same time as liposuction and usually do it under local anesthesia. Liposuction can also be done prior to the excision of the extra skin and occasionally is done following the skin excision as a separate procedure. It is currently our practice at re*be® to do an Avelar lift and any liposuction as separate procedures. Many patients will get enough skin shrinkage from laser liposuction that doing the lift can be delayed long term or may not be necessary at all. The blood supply to the surgical flaps can be reduced from either procedure and doing them as separate procedures may add significant safety benefits.

Example one week after avelar on the upper tummy (abdomen).
These photographs were taken before and one week after the procedure to remove excess skin on the upper tummy. The operation was done using local anesthesia and occasionally some mild sedation taken by mouth (Ativan® usually). No two people start out looking exactly the same before or after a surgical procedure. Your results will be different.

Example after avelar on the lower tummy (abdomen).
These photographs were taken before and several months after the procedure to remove excess skin on the lower tummy. The operation was done using local anesthesia and some mild sedation taken by mouth (Ativan® usually). There is some redness due to the immature scar tissue but skin otherwise is clear and smooth. The patient is satisfied with the results and can see the improvement. No two people start out looking exactly the same and your results may not look exactly like the patient in this photograph
More about re*be®
re*be® is rapidly becoming known in a wide area of the country as a center for procedures done under local anesthesia. Breast implants are now being done at re*be® this way. The cost of putting in the implants is less than the same procedure done in the hospital under general anesthesia and many people feel it is a much safer procedure done under local anesthesia. Dr. Kolegraff MD FACS is an ABMS Board Certified Surgeon (General Surgery) whose practice is devoted to primarily surgical procedures done in an office setting under local anesthesia. Dr. Kolegraff has privileges at 6 surrounding hospitals to use the operating room for these operations if you would prefer a light or general anesthesia for your procedure. Dr. Kolegraff is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons (FACS), The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, and The American Society of Cosmetic Breast Surgery.
