This is a video of an actual ultrasound guided sclerotherapy session done at re*be of Okoboji. The vein is the round black object in the upper middle of the image. The needle is seen coming in from the side and then sclerotherapy foam is injected into the inside of the vein. Not shown in the video is how the vein over several minutes decreases in size and the blood flow in the vein often stops. The sclerotherapy foam is irritating to the inside of the vein and if the compression stockings are able to completely stop the flow the vein will close. Once these large branch veins close they scar shut and in many cases are gone for good. This results in increased circulatory efficiency and reduces the symptoms of chronic varicose vein disease.
